CSV contact cleaner
Open a contact list and get back a clean one: repeated email addresses merged, names given their capitals, and full names split into first and last. It all happens in your browser, and the file never leaves your computer.

This tool needs JavaScript, which is off in your browser. Everything else on the page reads without it.
What it changes, and what it leaves alone
- Email addresses lose stray spaces and are written in lower case. A row whose address does not look like an email address is kept and counted, so you can fix it.
- Repeated addresses become one row: the first, with any blank cell filled from the repeats.
- Names written all in capitals or all in lower case are given capitals: “ADA OKAFOR” becomes “Ada Okafor”, and “lin mcadams” becomes “Lin McAdams”. Small words such as “de la” stay lower case.
- A full name is split before its last word, which keeps a “de”, “van” or “la” in front of it: “Sam de la Cruz” becomes Sam and de la Cruz. Check names with a middle name or two family names by hand.
- Every other column comes back as it was. A cell that a spreadsheet would run as a formula is written with an apostrophe in front, so opening the file runs nothing.
Importing the cleaned file into ContactRoll
ContactRoll imports a CSV file of up to 2,000 rows and shows, row by row, what the import would do before it writes anything. Files exported from HubSpot, Pipedrive, Salesforce and Zoho CRM are matched as they come. See Import your contacts from a CSV file.
Questions
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Your browser reads the file on your computer and builds the cleaned file there. Nothing is sent to us or anyone else, and nothing is kept once you close the page.
Which row is kept when an address appears twice?
The first one. Any cell that is empty in the first row takes the value from the later row, so no information is lost, and email addresses are compared without regard to capital letters.
Which names does it change?
Only names written all in capitals or all in lower case. A name that already mixes capitals, such as McAdams or DeShawn, is left exactly as it was.
What columns does it need?
One column named Email (or E-mail, or Email address). A Name or Full name column is split into First name and Last name when the file has none.
