Comparison for a team of 15

ContactRoll vs Zendesk for a team of 15

Zendesk is a help desk with voice in its Suite plans. This page prices Zendesk for 15 people who answer support email and take calls, and sets it beside ContactRoll, which adds the sales pipeline and marketing email to the same customer record.

Zendesk Suite Team and Suite Professional

What the team needsWhat the vendor’s page says15 people, a month
A help desk with a knowledge base, messaging and voice: Zendesk Suite TeamThe page prints $55 per agent a month, paid yearly. It lists a knowledge base, messaging and live chat, and telephony. Its comparison marks local and toll-free numbers and inbound and outbound minutes as add-ons and lists no phone menu in this plan. [1]15 × $55 = $825
The same, with a phone menu: Zendesk Suite ProfessionalThe page prints $115 per agent a month, paid yearly, and lists an IVR phone tree. Numbers and minutes are add-ons here too. [1]15 × $115 = $1,725
What happens to your data: ZendeskAn admin can export tickets, users and organizations as JSON, CSV or XML, but the page says data exports are not enabled by default and the export tool is not available on Team plans; the REST API can be used on any plan. The download link is valid for at least three days. [3]Not priced
The vendors, aboutList prices, paid yearly, in US dollars, before tax. The first row’s plan comes to $825; the second row’s, with a phone menu, to $1,725. Numbers and minutes are add-ons Zendesk’s page does not price, and are left out.$825
ContactRoll Standard15 users at $29 a month, paid yearly. Standard has no phone menus, owner-first ringing or warm transfer.$435
ContactRoll Plus15 users at $59 a month, paid yearly. Plus adds phone menus, owner-first ringing, warm transfer, automation flows, custom roles and the API.$885
What happens to your data: ContactRollAn Owner or Administrator downloads everything the organization holds as one JSON file from the Team page, and everything about one person from their contact page; reports and the audit log download as CSV; on Plus the API reads contacts, companies, deals and cases. Closing the account gives 30 days to reopen it, then everything is deleted within a further 30 days, and the downloads work until then. Your data is yoursIncluded

How to read these numbers

  • The total shown for Zendesk is its Suite Team plan; Suite Professional is the second row, and is the plan whose page lists a phone menu. Choose the row that matches the phone menu you need.
  • Zendesk’s pricing page lists no sales pipeline, so a team that sells would add a CRM to either row. That cost is not in these totals.
  • The two products differ most in what sits on the customer record: in ContactRoll the deals, the support cases, the calls and the marketing email consent are on one timeline.
  • ContactRoll Free is for a team of 3 people or fewer, so a team of 15 is on Standard or Plus. Zendesk has no free plan; it offers a 14-day free trial. (Zendesk’s pricing page, read .)

  • Calls in ContactRoll are billed by Twilio to your own account, with no markup from us. For 15 people who each make 200 minutes of calls and take 100 a month, on 3 numbers with no recording, Twilio’s published rates come to about $76 a month [2]. The calling cost calculator works it out for your own minutes.

Questions

Is ContactRoll cheaper than Zendesk?

For 15 people, Zendesk Suite Team comes to about $825 a month and Suite Professional, the plan with a phone menu, about $1,725. ContactRoll Plus is $885, plus about $76 of Twilio call charges for the minutes assumed on this page. Zendesk charges for numbers and minutes as add-ons that its pricing page does not price, and its page lists no sales pipeline.

Does Zendesk have a CRM?

Its pricing page lists customer service plans: ticketing, a knowledge base, messaging and voice. It lists no deals pipeline, so a team that sells would add a CRM. ContactRoll has contacts, companies and a deals pipeline on the same record as the cases and the calls.

What happens to my data if I leave?

Zendesk’s help page says data exports are not enabled by default, are not available on Team plans, and that its REST API can be used on any plan. ContactRoll gives an Owner or Administrator one JSON file of everything from the Team page, and deletes the data within 60 days of closing the account. See Your data is yours.
