Getting started with ContactRoll

When your organization is new, ContactRoll shows a Getting started card at the top of your case queue. It lists six steps that get your team ready to work, and it ticks each one off by itself as soon as it is done.

The six steps

  • Invite a teammate. Open Team and press Invite someone. The step is done once an invitation has been sent or a second member has joined.
  • Connect your support email. Open Settings, then Support email. The step is done when the first email arrives at your organization's own address.
  • Import or add your contacts. Use Import from a file on Contacts, or the form at the top of Contacts. The step is done once your organization has a contact.
  • Connect calling. Open Settings, then Calling, and connect your Twilio account.
  • Make your first deal. Open Deals to add one.
  • Set your brand kit. Open Marketing, then Brand, and add your colors, fonts, tagline, logo or voice.

The card reads your organization's own records each time it appears, so every step ticks itself. If something changes later, for example Twilio is disconnected, the card shows that step as open again.

Who sees the card

The card is for whoever sets the organization up: an Owner, an Administrator, or a member whose role may change the organization's settings. Each person sees only the steps their role lets them do, and each person's card is their own.

The card appears by itself for your organization's first 30 days. Press Hide to take it off your own queue. When every step is done, ContactRoll says "You’re all set." and Close puts the card away.

The Help menu

The Help menu is on every page: Help at the right end of the row of sections at a desk, or More, then Help, on a phone. It offers:

  • Getting started, which opens the queue with the card at its top, any time you want it back.
  • Guides and articles, which opens ContactRoll's articles in a new tab.
  • Email ContactRoll, which writes to hello@contactroll.com.

Try it with sample data

At the foot of the card, Try it with sample data offers a ready-made set of records to practice on: 25 people at 8 companies, deals across your pipeline, and 5 cases with their customers' messages, notes and tasks. Press Add sample data to add it.

Every sample record is marked Sample wherever it shows: in the queue, on each record's page, on the deals board, in tasks and in search. Sample data stays inside ContactRoll, so you can try things freely:

  • A reply on a sample case stays unsent, and the case says so above its reply box. Internal notes work as on any case.
  • Calls, marketing, flows, webhooks and the API pass sample records by.
  • The six steps tick for your own contacts and your own first deal.

When you are done, press Remove sample data on the card. One press takes away exactly what was added, along with anything written on those records, such as a note on a sample person. Your own records stay. A contact of yours that you put at a sample company stays, with no company.
