Post to Bluesky, Mastodon and X
A social post is a piece of a campaign, written, approved and published like an email or a video. Social posting comes with the Standard and Plus plans. An organization that moves to Free keeps its posts and accounts, and a post or video whose time comes while it is on Free is skipped at that time, saying why. It goes to the accounts your organization has connected on Bluesky, Mastodon and X, each at its own posting times.
Connect an account
Open Marketing, then Social, at https://app.contactroll.com/marketing/social, and press Connect Bluesky, Mastodon or X. Connected accounts belong to the organization, whoever connected them. Disconnect gives the access back.
- Bluesky: enter your handle (or the email you sign in with) and an app password, made in Bluesky's Settings, under Privacy and security, App passwords.
- Mastodon: enter Your server, the part after the second @ in your handle, such as mastodon.social, then press Continue on your server. Sign in there and Mastodon sends you back.
- X: X bills your own X developer account for each post, and the page shows X's prices before you connect. In your X developer account, turn on OAuth 2.0 for your app as a web app, with the callback address the page shows. Paste the app's Client ID and Client secret, press Keep the keys, then press Connect an X account and sign in on X.
Write a post
On a campaign, press Add post. The post's page asks for:
- Where it goes: any number of your accounts, on any of the networks.
- Text: one text for every account. Under it, a count for each network, such as "Bluesky: 80 of 300 · Mastodon: 73 of 500". Over a limit, it says by how much.
- Each network's own words, if you want to write the post differently for one network.
- A first comment on Bluesky or Mastodon, posted under the post by the same account once it has gone.
- Pictures: up to four from the media library, each with words that say what it shows.
- How it will look: a preview of each account's post.
Links go out through ContactRoll's tracked link with your campaign's tags. Saving makes a new version, and the version is what gets approved.
Set posting times
Open Marketing, then Queue, at https://app.contactroll.com/marketing/queue, and choose an account. Its posting times are days of the week and times of day, in your organization's time zone. Press Add a time to add one (up to ten a day) and Remove to take one away, then Save the posting times.
The next two weeks shows each posting time and what fills it: Free, a post's name and where it stands, or a draft that holds no time yet.
Give an approved post its time
On an approved post's page, under Next:
- Add to queue: each account gets its own next free posting time, and the page says where each went.
- Schedule for {time}: every account at the post's planned time. Move it changes that time.
- Post now: every account within the next minute.
At each account's time, ContactRoll posts the approved version once, then its first comment.
The calendar
The Calendar at https://app.contactroll.com/marketing/calendar shows every piece by month, and each post account by account: waiting for its time, going now, sent (with See it on the network), or failed. At a desk, drag a post to another day and it keeps its time of day. Move to… sets any day and time, and works on a phone and with a keyboard. You can move one account of a post on its own.
When something goes wrong
If a post does not go to one of its accounts, the campaign's owner and the person who approved it get an email straight away, with the reason. The post's other accounts go at their own times, and What happened on the post's page shows each account's outcome.
Results
ContactRoll reads each post's numbers once a day for 30 days after it goes, and each account's followers and posts once a day. Under What happened, a post shows, for example, "7 likes · 2 reposts · 1 reply · 1 quote, as Bluesky said Oct 11, 2026, 6:00 AM". X also gives views. The Marketing report has Posts and Accounts for any dates, with Download CSV. X bills each read to your X developer account, and the page shows that price too.
Who can do what
Owners and Administrators connect accounts, set posting times, and schedule and publish approved posts. Owners, Administrators, Supervisors, Agents and Marketers draft posts and move them on the calendar.
